St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School’s seventh-grade student, Alex Richards, has qualified, once again, for the National Academic Quiz Tournament’s (NAQT) national individual tournament. NAQT will hold its third annual championship for individuals, the Individual Player National Championship Tournament (IPNCT), on Sunday, April 5, 2020, at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont, Illinois.
It was Alex Richard’s impressive skills at the Holt Middle School Invitational on December 7, 2019, that qualified him to be invited to attend the national tournament. The IPNCT is a unique, single-day competition, bringing together top quiz bowl competitors from across the country. Players compete on questions designed to challenge them beyond the regular curriculum. It is an opportunity for players to prove themselves, to prepare for team-based national competitions, and to measure their skills against the best minds in multiple disciplines.
Last year, at the IPNCT, Alex was one of nine sixth-grade students to compete in the field of 83 of the best quiz bowl competitors. Along with competing individually last year, he also competed with the national qualifying team from St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School.
Kevin Paradine, St. Charles Borromeo quiz bowl coach said, “ Alex is a great competitor. In my over 30 years as a high school and middle school coach he is in a select group of competitors.” In looking at the field for the 2020 tournament, Alex statistics stack up really well. Good luck, Alex!
