Dear Catholic School Administrators, Teachers, and Parents:
Earlier today the Michigan Department of Education issued a memorandum stating that online instruction will not count toward instructional hours for public schools. While this is true for public schools, please know that this directive is not applicable to our 21 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Kalamazoo.
Our teachers and administrators have been working tirelessly to implement distance learning for our students which began this week and the feedback we have received indicates that this endeavor has been very successful! We believe that it is critical that our students continue to learn and develop new skills even though they are currently unable to attend classes in a brick and mortar building.
As Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Kalamazoo, please know we will continue to offer our distance learning and this instructional time will count toward our instructional hours.
I want to thank all of our administrators and teachers for their extraordinary efforts during these difficult times and applaud their dedication and devotion to our students and community.
I would also like to thank our parents for partnering with us to ensure that your sons and daughters continue to learn and commend our students for their dedication to their studies. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
Please join with Bishop Bradley and me in praying for all who have been impacted by this current crisis and for the well-being of all our constituents.
Sincerely,
Margaret Erich
